POSITION: Cashier


The mission of TPSS Co-op is to promote healthful living by offering wholesome foods, high quality produce and community resources, in a clean, friendly, co-operative grocery store… that you own!

In addition, TPSS Co-op is committed to being an educational resource to the community on ecological, environmental and food related issues.


PURPOSE: To provide prompt, friendly, helpful customer service and maintain the store in clean, fully-stocked, orderly condition.

STATUS: Reports to Front End Manager, Shift Coordinator/Manager on Duty

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Greet customers, smiling and making eye contact.
  • Become familiar with TPSS Co-op policies and products in order to answer customer questions. Refer unresolved questions or problems to the appropriate staff.
  • Check out customer purchases quickly and accurately, using correct prices and departments.
  • Call for back-up as needed so that customers wait as little as possible to be checked out.
  • Bag customer purchases as needed and ask customers if they need assistance. For those needing assistance, carry out groceries or call other staff if available.
  • Open and close out registers following established procedures. Count cash drawer at start & end of shift.
  • Put stuffers in bags, inform customers of specials and upcoming store events.
  • Maintain front end in clean, orderly condition.
  • Answer and route phone calls, take and route messages as needed.
  • Record shrink promptly and accurately.
  • Alert Shift Coordinator to potential shoplifters, disorderly customers or other emergencies.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Available to work mornings/evenings and weekends
  • Ability to lift and carry items weighing up to 20 lbs
  • Experience serving the public.
  • Accuracy, attention to detail.
  • Ability to handle multiple demands.
  • Ability to stay calm under pressure.

POSITION: Grocery Buyer

PURPOSE: To select, purchase, price and display fresh products and supervise department staff to meet objectives for sales, margin, labor, and customer service.

STATUS: Reports to Grocery Manager

RESPOSIBILITIES:

  • Negotiate with suppliers for favorable prices, terms, quality, & delivery.
  • Purchase products following store policies and assist in stocking shelves.
  • Research new or alternative sources of supply. Develop relationships with local providers.
  • Place orders in a timely way.
  • Receive deliveries or oversee receiving, following established receiving procedures, and rotate into storage. Check deliveries for damage, quality and accuracy, notify vendors of discrepancies.
  • Review invoices for accuracy and process appropriately.
  • Calculate prices following established pricing guidelines. Participate in periodic price comparisons with competitors. Price products to achieve margin and sales goals, while maintaining a competitive image. Mark down items as needed to reduce losses.
  • Get credit from suppliers where applicable for returned, damaged, spoiled goods. Coordinate storage of items to be returned to suppliers. See that unsellable items are properly disposed of.
  • Ensure accurate, up-to-date PLU's. Enter new products and price changes promptly and accurately into POS system.
  • Plan attractive displays, using color and texture to enhance.
  • Assist customers with product questions and special orders. Offer samples and suggestions for purchase and preparation in a friendly, courteous manner.
  • Provide clear, readable, consistent signage.
  • Visit other stores for price comparisons, product and merchandising ideas.
  • Coordinate returns and obtain credit from suppliers where applicable.
  • Maintain areas in clean, orderly condition, meeting health department standards.
  • Participate in monthly and/or quarterly inventory counts. Conduct inventories as requested by the management.
  • Participate in setting sales and margin goals for department.
  • Review departmental financial reports (sales, labor, margin, turns), with management and take corrective action as needed.
  • Attend department and storewide meetings.
  • Participate in quarterly inventories.
  • Perform other tasks assigned by manager.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience in retail grocery.
  • Firm grasp of margin pricing.
  • Communications skills (good listener, clear instructions).
  • Demonstrated ability to handle multiple demands.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs.
  • Scheduling flexibility and availability to work nights and weekends
  • Willingness and ability to learn and grow to meet the changing requirements of the job.
  • Knowledge of trends in natural foods industry.
  • Familiarity with store products.

POSITION: Shift Coordinator

PURPOSE: To ensure prompt, friendly, courteous customer service, accurate cash handling, store security and smooth store operations during designated shifts.

RESPOSIBILITIES:

  • CUSTOMER SERVICE/CASHIERING
    • Provide excellent customer service by helping customers find product locations and addressing questions and complaints.
    • Check out customer purchase quickly and accurately, using correct prices and departments.
    • Issue credits to customers for returned items and ensure that returns are properly disposed of.
    • Help customers with placing special orders
    • Open and close out registers following established procedures. Balance cash drawer at end of shift.
    • Answer and route phone calls, take and route messages as needed.
    • Maintain store in clean, orderly condition during shift.
    • See that spills and other hazardous conditions are cleaned up promptly.
  • FRONT-END ADMINISTRATION
    • Cover register during staff breaks.
    • Provide change for cashiers as needed from the safe.
    • Ensure accuracy and security of all cash received through front-end during shift. Periodically check with cashiers for drops of excel bills and checks during shifts and place in safe.
    • Stock check-out stands with register supplies (bags, register tape, pens, etc.) and inform Store Manager of low supplies.
    • Assist Store Manager with notifying cashiers of price changes and specials and all changes in store policies and procedures affecting cashiering.
    • Coordinate Front-End staff stocking and facing when there are no customers to check out.
    • Find staff to fill in last minute holes in schedule.
    • Deal with shoplifters, disorderly customers, and medical emergencies following established procedures.
    • Trouble shoot equipment breakdowns during shift, following established procedures.
    • Perform routine maintenance tasks as needed during shift.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Expertise in running a cash register.
  • Supervisory experience.
  • Familiarity with the Catapult system.
  • Experience serving the public, handling multiple demands while staying calm.
  • Ability to project an outgoing, friendly personality.
  • Communications skills: good listening, clear instructions.
  • Familiarity with natural foods.
  • Regular, predictable attendance.
  • Available to work mornings/evenings and weekends.
  • Ability to perform stocking tasks.

POSITION: Wellness Manager

PURPOSE: To select, purchase, price and promote wellness products and supervise department staff to meet objectives for sales, margin, labor, and customer service.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide leadership, supervision, training and development for all Wellness buyers and associates.
  • Ensure the Wellness department daily operations are functionally efficient and effective and that the department is clean, attractive, and fully stocked.
  • Ensure that the Wellness Department staff schedule is organized, posted, and followed and that scheduled and emergency PTO shifts are covered.
  • Price products to achieve margin and sales goals, while maintaining a competitive image following established pricing guidelines.
  • Negotiate with suppliers for favorable prices, terms, quality, & delivery.
  • Purchase products and receive deliveries or oversee receiving.
  • Ensure accurate, up-to-date price labeling and/or shelf tags for department items.
  • Ensure accurate, up-to-date PLU's are in the POS system.
  • Evaluate turns by pulling item movement reports of best sellers and slow movers. Adjust product assortment accordingly. Maintain overall balance of SKU’s to space available.
  • Assist customers with product questions and special orders.
  • Offer samples and suggestions to customers as well as information on use of products.
  • Provide clear, readable, consistent signage in accordance with TPSS branding.
  • Participate in setting sales and margin goals for department.
  • Review departmental financial reports (sales, labor, margin, turns), with Store or General Manager and take corrective action as needed.
  • Approve timecards daily.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience in retail Wellness.
  • Knowledge of organic and commercial growing practices, and organic certification regulations.
  • Firm grasp of margin pricing.
  • Communications skills (good listener, clear instructions).
  • Demonstrated ability to handle multiple demands.
