Location: TPSS Co-op, Takoma Park Store

Purpose: To select, purchase, price and display fresh produce and supervise department staff to meet objectives for sales, margin, labor and customer service.

Status: Reports to Grocery Manager

Responsibilities:

• Provide prompt, friendly, courteous customer service.
• Responsible for making sure that buyers and stockers fulfill their duties at all times.
• Ensure that back stock is handled and stock is rotated before buyers place orders.
• Ensure that the store is kept clean and items are shelved properly.
• Work with Marketing Manager to prepare store displays.
• Work closely with Receiver to be sure prices and price tags are accurate.
• Work closely with receiver to ensure proper handling, recording, and disposing of shrink/ FTS.
• Ensure that the proper procedures are followed for receiving products into the store
• Monitor usage and ordering of store supplies and educate staff on how to minimize unnecessary usage.
• Ensure that margins are being met by buyers. Help train new employees for stocker, receiver and buyer positions including the basic use of Catapult, ScanGenious and UNFI website.
• Help to develop methods to minimize shrink and wasteful practices.
• Place various orders as needed
• Fill in for staff as needed throughout the Grocery department, including bulk, refrigerated, and frozen.
• As requested, serve as the Grocery Manager in his/her absence.
• Help with periodic inventory counts as needed. Visit other stores for price comparisons, product and merchandising ideas.  Attend trade shows, conferences and workshops as assigned.
• Maintain department equipment in working order.  Where applicable, monitor cooler and freezer temperatures and follow established procedures for handling breakdowns.  Advise Store Manager of equipment problems or needs.

• Ensure that the store is kept clean and items are shelved properly.
• Work with Marketing Coordinator to prepare store displays.

Purpose: To provide prompt, friendly, helpful customer service and maintain the store in clean, fully-stocked, orderly condition.

Status: Reports to the Team Leader or Purchasing Manager

Responsibilities:

• Assist customers with product questions, in prompt, friendly, courteous manner, referring them to other staff when necessary.
• Offer suggestions for purchases and ways to prepare products.
• Help customers place special orders.
• Stock displays fully without overcrowding; face items on shelves.
• Rotate older stock to front, making space for new stock.
• Pull short-date or low-quality items and follow established procedures for recording and disposing.
• Label items accurately with price tags or signs.  Report price discrepancies to buyers by using the ‘scan report’.
• Maintain stocking lists for later shifts.  Notify buyers of out-of-stocks.
• Help with receiving deliveries and rotate overstock into back stock.
• Stock produce and close it for the night as needed.
• Clean up spills, remove trash promptly, sweep and mop floor.
• Use equipment safely.  Advise Shift Coordinator of equipment problems.
• Participate in periodic inventory counts as needed.
• Attend all-staff and department meetings.
• Consistently report to work on time, starting tasks at the beginning of scheduled shift.
• Perform other tasks assigned by Purchasing Manager.

Duties & Responsibilities:

• Check out customer in an efficient and friendly manner.
• Contribute to efficient and effective front end operations by filling out scan reports when necessary, calling for back up when a line forms, and requesting other assignments when there are no customers to check out
• Maintain cash controls and security by verifying cash balance at beginning and end of shift.
• Maintain a safe and clean environment by helping keep areas clear of grocery baskets and water bottles.
• Restock unpurchased items left at the checkout when possible.
• Maintain store security by following all security procedures and deterring shoplifting.
• Greet and offer assistance to members and customers.
• Know product locations to be able to assist customers in finding them.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Front End Manager.
