POSITION: Cashier/Customer Service (Full-time)

Location: TPSS Co-op, Takoma Park Store

Purpose of Position: To provide prompt, friendly, helpful customer service and maintain the store in clean, fully-stocked, orderly condition.

Responsibilities:
  • Greet customers in a professional manner.
  • Be knowledgeable of TPSS Co-op policies and products in order to answer customer questions. Refer unresolved questions or problems to the appropriate staff.
  • Check out customer purchases quickly and accurately, using correct prices and departments.
  • Call for back-up as needed so that customers wait as little as possible to be checked out.
  • Bag customer purchases and ask customers if they need assistance. If required assist customers with carrying out groceries or call other staff if available.
  • Open and close out registers following established procedures. Count cash drawer at start & end of shift.
  • Put stuffers in bags, inform customers of specials and upcoming store events.
  • Maintain front end in clean, orderly condition.
  • Answer and route phone calls, take and route messages as needed.
  • Record all shrink promptly and accurately.
  • Alert Shift Coordinator to potential shoplifters, disorderly customers or other emergencies.
  • Offer suggestions for purchases and ways to prepare products.
  • Help customers place special orders.
  • Stock displays fully without overcrowding; face items on shelves. Rotate older stock to front, making space for new stock.
  • Label items accurately with price tags or signs. Report price discrepancies to buyers utilizing the ‘scan report’.
  • Maintain stocking lists for later shifts. Notify buyers of out-of-stocks.
  • Clean up spills, remove trash promptly, sweep and mop floor.
  • Use equipment safely. Advise Shift Coordinator of equipment problems.
  • As directed, participate in periodic inventory counts as needed.
  • Attend all-staff and department meetings.
  • Consistently report to work on time, starting tasks at the beginning of scheduled shift.
  • Perform other tasks assigned by Operations Manager.

Qualifications:
  • Available to work mornings/evenings and weekends
  • Proven math skills
  • Ability to perform stocking tasks
  • Ability to lift and carry items weighing up to 50 lbs
  • Experience working the public.
  • Accuracy, attention to detail.
  • Ability to handle multiple demands and to stay calm under pressure.
  • Ability to project an outgoing, friendly personality.
  • Ability to stand for long periods.
  • Willingness and ability to learn and grow to meet the changing requirements of the job

POSITION: Housekeeper

Location: Split between the Takoma Park Store and the Silver Spring Store

Purpose of Position: Housekeeping is responsible for maintaining safe and clean environment.

Responsibilities:
  • Clean building floors by sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, or vacuuming them.
  • Clean outside area that is the property of TPSS Co-op.
  • Gather and empty trash.
  • Clean and polish furniture and fixtures.
  • Clean windows, glass partitions, and mirrors, using soapy water or other cleaners, sponges, and squeegees.
  • Dust furniture and equipment.
  • Clean and sanitize restroom facilities and fixtures including sinks, urinals and toilets; wash windows, mirrors and walls; replenish supplies in the restrooms.
  • Use safety signs and wear close shoes and gloves.
  • Move empty boxes to clear pathways.
  • Sweep up debris in aisles and walkways. Mop up spilled liquids or tracked in rain and/or snow.
  • Report need for repairs and maintenance on equipment.
  • Correct unsafe areas and unsafe practices
  • Performs other related duties as assigned

Qualifications:
  • Able to perform cleaning tasks including heavy lifting (up to 50 pounds).
  • Able to learn to use a variety of custodial equipment, supplies and materials.
  • Knowledge of safe work practices.

POSITION: Grocery Department Manager

About the Position: TPSS Co-op has an opportunity for an experienced grocery/retail manager with a strong grocery background.

Responsibilities:
  • Maintain oversight of daily operations of the Grocery Department.
  • Provide excellent customer service.
  • Ensure that the department is maintained in accordance with the TPSS Co-op standard at both store locations.
  • Be responsible for achieving annual objectives; sales and profitability, labor and gross margin for the Grocery Department.
  • Work as part of a collective management team to ensure the daily operation of both stores.
  • Work as a hands-on manager.

Qualifications:
  • Two years experience in a manager/supervisor role in retail food operations
  • Hands on experience with developing and implementing budgets as well as maintaining cost and margin requirements
  • Strong mentoring/coaching skills, as well as experience with motivating, leading and training staff
  • Proven ability to develop, plan and implement systems, policies and procedures in a retail environment
  • Committed to ensuring excellent customer service
  • Possesses strong leadership skills
  • Ability to communicate on all levels
  • Ability to thrive in a fast paced environment

POSITION: POS/Inventory Coordinator

Location: TPSS Co-op, Takoma Park Store

Purpose of Position: Coordinate and oversee the day to day functions of the inventory and POS process.

Responsibilities:
  • Oversee all aspects of the Catapult POS system by troubleshooting system issues, including maintenance and repair.
  • Ensure the staff is trained in regards to inventory management POS processes and how to utilize the Catapult system correctly.
  • Coordinate with buyers to ensure the weekly inventory cycle counting is completed accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Manage & supervise quarterly physical inventory processes.
  • Be responsible for the accuracy of information housed in the Catapult system

Qualifications:
  • At least two years hands on experience with the Catapult system and retail inventory management systems
  • Proven ability to train others
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Leadership experience
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Willingness to be a part of an organization that is continuously improving
  • Familiarity with Access, MS Office and Scan Genius a plus
